If you have not completed your entry, you can update your details at any time under “Personal Details”. If you need to change any details after final submission of your entry, you will need to contact the Salon Secretary at: info@northshoresalon.co.nz
The primary objective of the Salon is to foster and elevate the field of photography in New Zealand. Entry fees are structured to ensure that the Salon achieves a financial balance.
Any surplus funds acquired through sponsorships or other means are reinvested into the North Shore Photographic Society through enhancements in equipment and processes.
It's worth noting that all our committee members are volunteers who generously contribute their time and expertise to efficiently manage the Salon.
The North Shore Salon of Photography accepts credit cards and Debit Cards via the PayPal system.
N.B. You do NOT have to create a PayPal account. PayPal will present you with a page for you to enter your details. To avoid having to create a PayPal account you need to scroll down and deselect their toggle "save info and create your PayPal account". Once you have deselected that, you will be able top "continue as guest".
The North Shore Photographic Society and Salon adhere to privacy policies mandated by the Privacy Commission. Should you believe that your privacy has been compromised, please don't hesitate to reach out to us promptly using the email address of the chairman at info@northshoresalon.co.nz A copy of the policy can be found here
Our server sent out a confirmation email immediately. Check you typed your email address correctly. Some ISPs (including Xtra/Yahoo) hold back emails from new contacts the first time, as a method for stopping spam. The idea is that a spammer will not retry, whereas a genuine contact will. Our system will keep retrying for a couple of days before giving up. Please allow your server to wait an hour. If you have not received confirmation after this time please check your spam folder. If there is still no confirmation after 24 hours, please contact us by email info@northshoresalon.co.nz
Modifications to your entry are permissible at any point leading up to the Salon's closure. Kindly refrain from capitalising every letter in your name; capitalise only the initial letter, such as "John Smith." Additionally, when providing your address details, avoid capitalising entire words, and when indicating an RD address, remember to separate the components using commas.
The Login screen has a Forgot? button. If you click on that with nothing entered in the userid and password fields, the system will ask you for your email address, and send an email with a list of all the userids registered to that email address. If you click the Forgot? button having entered your userid, the system will (after checking with you) change your password to some random data and email you the result.
All image entries must be able to be printed to a reasonable standard on an A4 sheet. In previous years, that has been the defacto minimum size for prints. We used that as the basis for working out the pixel requirements. It's a compromise, as all things are, but we set the maximum pixel size to cover an A3 print at 300ppi, and the minimum size to cope with an A4 print at 240ppi.
The medal-winning entries will be printed and exhibited at the Print Art, Barrys Point Road, Takapuna on Auckland's North Shore.
We hope that the photographers who are used to the 1620x1080 size of digitals will accept the larger size. Certainly at the North Shore Photographic Society we have been using 3840x2160 as our digital size for some years now, since we acquired a 4k projector for our club nights, and the members have segued into the new size quite happily.
At present, it is necessary to upload all images through our website, and we regret to inform you that we are unable to accommodate image submissions via email. For further details, please feel free to get in touch with the chairman at info@northshoresalon.co.nz
When an image has been uploaded, a thumbnail appears on the website. If you can see the thumbnail, your image IS uploaded correctly. When you have printed your "final entry form", we will email you confirmation of what you have entered. If you do not receive an upload confirmation email immediately after having printed this form, then please wait for an hour before contacting the salon by email.
Your image must be a jpeg file with a maximum width of 3240 pixels, and a maximum height of 2160 pixels. Images larger than that will be downsized to conform.
For 2025 we are also imposing a minimum pixel density. Images with a width less than 1680 pixels or a height of less than 1680 pixels will not be allowed. The height rule is relaxed in the case of a "letterbox" or "column" image image, so if an image has a width of greater than 2880 pixels, the height is ignored. If a portrait image has a height equal to 2160 pixels, the width is ignored.
Our system renames your file on upload, and the name of the file on your computer is ignored. So, it simply doesn't matter how you name your digital image. The title that you enter on the entry form page is important, however, Although it forms no part of the file name, it is used when judging and displaying the results on the website.
Please do not use Latin descriptions, botanical names or all capitals in your title plus the use of macrons in your title, the computer does not recognise these and in many cases, it creates more work for the committee, the macron often appears in the title in an odd format. We apologise for asking for this to be done and while it is important to recognise both botanical and correct titles, this is a photography competition and we ask you to consider the extra time this takes for us to fix.
