All image entries must be able to be printed to a reasonable standard on an A4 sheet. In previous years, that has been the defacto minimum size for prints. We used that as the basis for working out the pixel requirements. It's a compromise, as all things are, but we set the maximum pixel size to cover an A3 print at 300ppi, and the minimum size to cope with an A4 print at 240ppi.
The medal-winning entries will be printed and exhibited at the Mairangi Arts Centre on Auckland's North Shore.
Our system renames your file on upload, and the name of the file on your computer is ignored. So, it simply doesn't matter how you name your digital image. The title that you enter on the entry form page is important, however, Although it forms no part of the file name, it is used when judging, preparing the catalogue and displaying the results on the website.
Yes. Click on a thumbnail in the menu panel. Your browser will open a new window containing your image at 100%. This works both for images for judging and images for publication (where 100% will probably be greater than your screen size). To view the image full-screen, exactly as the judge will see it, press F11 - (unless your browser is Safari, or you are using a Mac.). Press esc to quit.
As soon as an image is uploaded and before you see the confirming thumbnail, the server checks the uploaded image for size, and if necessary, reduces it. The software used is "Image Magick". It is a very slow process, so you are advised to resize your images before uploading.
Images will be displayed for judging in a colour managed environment, so whatever profile you use will be honoured. The monitors and projectors in use will use the perceptual model to convert whatever you embed. If no profile is embedded, we will assume sRGB IEC61966-2.1.
Your image must be a jpeg file with a maximum width of 3240 pixels, and a maximum height of 2160 pixels. Images larger than that will be downsized to conform.
For 2024 we are also imposing a minimum pixel density. Images with a width less than 1680 pixels or a height of less than 1680 pixels will not be allowed. The height rule is relaxed in the case of a "letterbox" or "column" image image, so if an image has a width of greater than 2880 pixels, the height is ignored. If a portrait image has a height equal to 2160 pixels, the width is ignored.
When an image has been uploaded, a thumbnail appears on the website. If you can see the thumbnail, your image IS uploaded correctly. When you have printed your "final entry form", we will email you confirmation of what you have entered. If you do not receive an upload confirmation email immediately after having printed this form, then please wait for an hour before contacting the salon by email.
No. Only Salon personnel and people who know your userid and password will be able to view your images.
The images are stored in a location on the server that is NOT accessible over the internet except via our own entry system.
