TERMS AND CONDITIONS NORTH SHORE SALON 2025
ENTRY
The competition welcomes photographers of all skill levels, whether based in New Zealand or internationally. It is open to everyone in the public.
Entrants must possess all necessary rights and permissions for any subject matter featured in all of their entries submitted to the competition.
Please note that entry fees must be paid in New Zealand dollars, and any associated costs, such as currency exchange fees, are the sole responsibility of the entrant.
Entries must originate as one or more photographs made by the entrant.
• Images may consist of several layers, but each non-adjustment layer must contain only images originally captured by the entrant using a camera of some kind.
• Textures and overlays purchased or obtained online are specifically not allowed.
• Electronically generated patterns (e.g., fractals and commercially purchased "textures") are not permitted.
• Significant editing and processing of entries is permitted, provided it is carried out by the entrant. However, images created without the original use of a camera by the entrant, such as computer-generated graphics, are not eligible for submission. Please refer to the AI Policy.
Any image that has been awarded an acceptance or higher award in a previous North Shore Salon is ineligible.
For clarity, images by the same author that differ only slightly—such as minor variations in editing (e.g., color vs. monochrome), or alternate crops with the same point of interest—will be considered the same image under these terms and conditions.
TOURS AND WORKSHOPS
Images captured during photo tours or workshops are permitted only if:
• All photographs submitted to this competition must be taken under the complete control of the photographer.
• The photograph was not taken under the direct guidance of a tutor or instructor and the photographer had full control over their camera plus full control over post-production.
• The photographer had full and exclusive control over all elements of the scene, including lighting, props, models, and sets.
• This ensures that the submitted work reflects the entrant's own creative vision and technical ability.
SUBMISSION FEE
• Submission Fee NZ$15 per image entered.
• Payment must be made by PayPal (or credit card via PayPal) before the entry is accepted.
• Please note that, as with all photographic competitions, not every entry can be selected as a winner.
• In the interest of fairness, we’d like to clarify that all entry fees are non-refundable. We appreciate your understanding and thank you for your participation.

You may enter up to four images in each category/section, for a maximum entry of 24 images. Definitions are available under Special Competition Subject List or by clicking links below.

IMAGE SPECIFICATIONS
Does not Apply to the "From my Phone" Category
• All images must comply with the following requirements:
• Images must be 240ppi or higher resolution (in case your entry is a winner to be printed)
• Images cannot be smaller than 1680 pixels on the short side
• Images cannot be larger than 3240x2160 pixels and will be automatically downsized by the entry program
• The height rule is relaxed in the case of a "letterbox" or "column" image. If a landscape image has a width greater than 2880 pixels, the height is ignored. If a portrait image has a height equal to 2160 pixels, the width is ignored.
• All images submitted are to be JPEG not RAW or other formats.
The committee reserves the right to request RAW files relating to any image requiring further clarification.
REPRODUCTION AND PRIVACY
• Copyright of all entries remains solely with you, the entrant, at all times.
• By entering this competition, you grant North Shore Salon 2025 the non-exclusive right to reproduce your submitted images for purposes directly related to the Salon for media purposes only. This includes but is not limited to, using low-resolution versions of your images on the Salon website, NSPS online platforms, and publications for promotional and publicity purposes.
• This agreement does not transfer ownership of your images but allows us to showcase them in ways that support the Entrant and the Salon's activities.
• The photo must not infringe upon the trademark, copyright, moral rights, intellectual rights, or rights of privacy of any entity or person.
• No image may contain any infringing, threatening, false, misleading, abusive, harassing, libellous-, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, scandalous, inflammatory, pornographic or profane content.
• We are committed to adhering to the Principles of the New Zealand Privacy Act as outlined in our privacy policy, available on our website.
• All personal details stored in the NSS database are accessible to the Entrant via the website, where you can view and update the information at any time. We take the protection of your privacy seriously and ensure compliance with New Zealand Privacy Law in all our practices.
LIABILITY
• The North Shore Salon 2025 will not be liable for any claims relating to your copyright or privacy infringements or disputes.
• Note: These rules are subject to change. While the NSPS Salon Committee makes every effort to inform members of any updates, we strongly recommend regularly checking the website to ensure your entries comply with the most current rules.
COMMUNICATION
• Winners will be notified by email, and the SUPREME WINNER will be contacted firstly by phone if a number is available.
PRIZES
All Gold, Silver and Bronze winners will be awarded a custom-made medal in a display box, with a digital certificate. This also includes the Supreme winner, who will also receive an engraved trophy.
Prizes supplied by sponsors or supporters will be made public prior to the closing of entries.
• All the top winning prints, (Supreme, Gold, Silver, Bronze) will be printed by NSS Sponsor Print Art and will be hung in an exhibition at Print Art Studios in Takapuna. At the end of the exhibition, all prints will be sent by courier to the entrant. (New Zealand only).
• There are no cash alternatives available for any non-cash portion of the Prize.
• All images with Honours, Acceptance, and Highly Commended will be on a digital display at Print Art Studio, also they will receive a digital certificate by email.
• Images will be uploaded to YouTube on the North Shore Photography YouTube channel under each category. These will be displayed with the photographer's name and title.
• Entries will be judged by the nominated judging panel. All decisions are final. NSS reserves the right to disqualify any entry that is deemed inappropriate or does not conform to stated contest rules.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE USE (AI) IN ENTRIES
• All components of the submitted image must be the original photographic creation of the entrant. No portion of the image may be generated using AI software or programs that rely on text-based inputs.
• AI tools requiring word prompts are considered digital creation, not photography, and are therefore not permitted.
• Reasonable post-production editing using traditional software such as Lightroom or Photoshop is permitted.
• Any images found to be generated or substantially altered by AI will be disqualified.
• The North Shore Salon 2025 reserves the right to request RAW files relating to any image requiring further clarification
- GENERAL
Due to high postage costs, we regret that we’re unable to send prints or winning materials outside of New Zealand. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to your participation. - The Salon committee reserves the right to disqualify any entry it deems unsuitable to the nature of the Salon.
While the list of rules may seem extensive, this competition is designed to unite the photographic community and create a space where photographers of all levels can connect, share their passion, and grow together.
