Lily Licked was shot as part of a study I was doing for club subject ‘flowers’ earlier this year. I was trying to highlight the very tip of the petal to show off its velvety texture. I did not want the background to distract from the subject but I did want its symmetrical shape to leave no doubt in the viewer’s mind what it was. It wasn’t until later that I thought it looked like a tongue, hence its name.
